So... after a fantastic day of riding, we're settled in at the Northern Inn in Republic, WA.
The whole town has a film-set feel. A jumble of Western-movie cliches, with Old West facades on every building. After getting settled, we wandered up the road to Madonna's Bar & Grill. (I don't think she's there too often, unless it's to throw off the paparazzi. Just saying.) The facade is replete with Westernisms, right down to the swinging 'saloon' doors. We had a couple of beers each, decided against risking the kitchen, and left when the karaoke began. (Is there a famous song about a poker face? It sounded vaguely familiar.)
Tomorrow we're heading to Kalispell, MT, which is a hop-skip-and-ride from the holy grail of roads in these parts, the Going-to-the-Sun-Road. We'll likely leave that for the start of day 3.
But hey, you never know. Sometimes the road goes faster than you expect, sometimes (like today) slower, and others, exactly the speed you'd planned on. You just gotta roll with it.
